חַבֻּרוֹת פֶּצַע [תַּמְרוּק] (תמריק) בְּרָע וּמַכּוֹת חַדְרֵי בָטֶן: This morning (10/25/21) we began learning the final pasuk in Chapter 20. The translation proved to be difficult on account of the contronym "tamrook b'ra," which can either mean "to purge evil" (i.e. to get rid of it) or "to polish evil" (i.e. to accentuate it). We came up with three of our own approaches before turning to Rabbeinu Yonah (with a nod to Metzudas David). Tomorrow we'll go back and refine our understanding of their approaches, then see what the other meforshim have to say.
